RICO
The Racketeering
Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act was first driven
by Federal Prosecutors seeking to combat organized
crime. Initially, RICO was exclusively a Federal Law,
and was used to break apart so called “organized crime”,
such as the Mafia or the Drug Cartels, where it had been
previously difficult to pierce the so called “code of
silence”.
Today, Florida is like many States, and has passed RICO
statutes that they apply to all manner of “criminal
organizations”. While RICO laws are certainly still used
to go after the large criminal enterprises like the
mafia and street gangs, the State of Florida is also
applying RICO to a wide variety of activities.
A web site is frankly not the place to try to lay out
all of the intricacies of Florida’s RICO statutes. In
fact, Florida’s RICO Law is still evolving through
ongoing criminal cases.
While all areas of criminal law are generally complex,
no part of Florida Law is more complex than the RICO
statutes. Though being charged with a crime in Florida
should be enough of a reason to hire an experiences
criminal lawyer, RICO charges make the need for an
experienced criminal defense lawyer even more acute.
Our lawyers have successfully defended clients charged
with RICO statutes. We understand Florida Law, and we
have decades of experience in Central Florida law
proving that we fight for our clients.
