Sex Crimes
While Florida Law
certainly considers Capital Sexual Battery a “violent
crime”, so called Sex Crimes are generally viewed
differently by the public, and sometimes have special
stipulations under Florida Law. For example, “Sex
Offenders” are sometimes required to register with the
State of Florida and/or local jurisdictions after a
conviction, and sentences are sometimes increased based
upon the age of the victim or past criminal convictions.
A conviction on any of the Florida Sex Crimes listed to
the right can mean anything from probation to decades in
jail. As with all areas of Florida Law, if you are
convicted of a “sex crime” in Florida, there is no clear
way to estimate your potential criminal sentence without
a specific understanding of your particular situation.
Your potential sentence relies to a great extent on your
criminal record (or lack there of), the strength of the
case the district attorney feels that he/she has, as
well as the skill of your criminal defense lawyer.
As with all people facing criminal charges in Florida,
there are four potential outcomes; charges can be
dropped, you can agree to a plea bargain, you can be
convicted at trial, or you can be acquitted.
While no attorney can alter the facts of the case or
your criminal record, a good criminal lawyer offers the
best chance at minimizing potential criminal penalties.
